About WE CAN

WE CAN is a nonprofit organization started in 2001 for women on Cape Cod. We provide a supportive environment in which Cape women can find the assistance they need to turn their lives around.

WE CAN is dedicated to assisting Cape Cod women going through the difficult transition of       divorce, career change or growth, job loss, illness, or retirement.  WE CAN assists unemployed        and underemployed women - often single mothers who have suffered a debilitating divorce or          loss, an abusive relationship, a severe illness, a life-changing transition, or a job loss - who         struggle to sustain their families. Whether their situation is acute or chronic, WE CAN will help.

WE CAN's objective is stability for families and year-round employment for our women clients, with new skills and wages that help them become self-sufficient, able to sustain their families, and able to navigate systems and solve problems.

Options and Pathmakers, our flagship programs, have a significant ripple effect for the children of our clients - and the future of Cape Cod - in the areas of employment aspirations, future earnings, and self-confidence, all of which serve to break the cycle of poverty and build resiliency in children.

How it works: An Options client who becomes a Pathmaker (mentee) sets measurable goals for one year and is paired with a prescreened, volunteer mentor for that year to guide, encourage, and believe in her as she pursues her goals. She attends monthly workshops (balancing a checkbook and basic budgeting, conflict resolution, interviewing, dressing for success) and builds a support network with other women in the program. Mentors may arrange informational interviews and help their mentee choose an education/training program, and fill out applications, financial aid and scholarship forms.

Our mission:  WE CAN Corporation, recognizing that every community member's well-being contributes to that of the whole community, supports Cape Cod women in life transitions with services that bring increased opportunity, self-sufficiency, and stability.  WE CAN furthers women's development through:

    • Goal setting and guidance through mentoring;

    • Assisting with transitions such as divorce, career change, job loss, illness,  retirement, isolation and personal loss; and,

    • Providing resources for information and referrals.

OUR VISION:
Any woman who seeks to improve the condition of her life knows that WE CAN is the leading resource to facilitate transformation.
WE CAN creates hope, identifies possibilities, and supports aspirations.
Through an integrated, engaged community, mentoring is the natural way of life.

WE CAN is proud to help families remain on Cape Cod.
