Workshops, Training, & Support

Workshops at WE CAN

As needs are expressed to us through the women in our programs, from community members, and through our referral lines, we respond with timely needed workshops, tailored training sessions, and specialized one-to-one programs and support groups.

Current offerings include:

Workshops and Training

From Surviving to Thriving is a 6-week program designed to bring women out from behind what holds them back, focus on what is important for them and their family, understand what can help them get and stay balanced, and to identify available opportunities. Upon completion of this workshop series, in addition to developing new skills and ideas, participants will have developed a one-month plan, a six-month plan, and a one-year plan to achieve their goals. Certified Professional Life Coach Maggie French leads the workshops, which are offered on a periodic basis.

Thriving with a Blast - Life Energized is the 4-session follow-up workshop to From Surviving to Thriving. This series highlights include:

  • Learning about the seven levels of energy
  • Unique traits and how they play out at each level
  • How to identify obstacles that hold participants back
  • How to maximize the use of energy to achieve individual goals.

This follow-up workshop is also conducted by Certified Professional Life Coach Maggie French.

Support Sessions

Work Support

One-to-one Work Support sessions address work support needs and provide guidance with work-search and career-related matters. Volunteers with professional expertise in these areas conduct individual sessions to guide participants with pertinent information, job search strategies, resume preparation, cover letter wording, career exploration, and - among other things -job interview coaching. The agenda for these sessions is determined by the participant. Sessions are scheduled by appointment only, and can be arranged by calling 508-430-8111.

Suit Yourself enables WE CAN Work Support program participants to - at no cost to themselves - obtain women's clothing and accessories from any of the thrift stores partnering in the Suit Yourself program to augment their personal and/or professional presentation. WE CAN conducts outreach to encourage donations of new or gently used in-season women's clothing and accessories to one of our partner thrift stores. In return, participating thrift stores honor WE CAN gift certificates. WE CAN program participants can then shop in any Suit Yourself partner store conveniently located near them. Click here for a list of participating thrift stores.

Financial Empowerment

These one-to-one Sessions are for women who want to plan for their future and ensure financial health, as well as those who are currently struggling with financial issues or concerns. Through the generosity of experienced bankers, financial planners, and tax accountants, low to moderate income women now have an opportunity to obtain guidance and direction on a wide range of financial matters.

The Financial Empowerment Program is designed to complement existing programs on the Cape that offer financial guidance, by assisting women who may need more individualized attention than they may be able to receive in a group setting. This program is also an option for those who may feel uncomfortable in other more "public" venues.

One-to-one Financial Empowerment sessions, with a professional financial volunteer, are posted on our website and need to be reserved in advance by calling the WE CAN office at 508-430-8111. Initial sessions are 45 minutes in length, with the opportunity to schedule a follow up, if the situation warrants.

Divorce Support Group

Volunteer leaders who are trained therapists or counselors facilitate 8-week groups of 8 to 12 women who are contemplating divorce, in the process of divorce, dealing with the aftermath of divorce, or the breakup of a long-term committed relationship. The group is designed to provide a confidential and safe environment for women to speak openly about their experiences, to allow for healing, to facilitate closure, to exchange ideas, and to ease in the recovery of lost self-esteem.

We work to ensure that a support group is in place throughout the year. Contact WE CAN at 508-430-8111 for more information.
